Theory Made Manifest / 2019
‘Theory made Manifest’ was created as part of the subject Design Studies at RMIT in 2019. This project involved demonstrating Josef Alber’s theory ‘Minimum means, maximum effect’ by using a particular material. Timber was turned to manifest this theory.
The project started with scrap pieces of timber turned in a short amount of time, using limited tools (‘minimum’) and has resulted in a ‘toy’ that fosters play and skill building, through stacking pieces in infinite configurations, as well as creation, imagination and storytelling (‘maximum’).
In 2020, I entered this project in the Wood Maker of Year Awards Competition in the ‘Student’ category, and it received a Commended Award.
